## Summary

Packing exercise into a few days of the week or spreading it out made no clearly detectable difference to the risk of dying. That is the result of an analysis of studies in middle-aged and older adults. It compared so-called weekend warriors with people who are regularly active.

The team searched five large databases and kept 46 reports. But only three independent studies compared the two patterns directly, covering 452,513 people in total. In those studies, the risk of death did not clearly differ between the groups. Six further comparisons, which the researchers recalculated from existing data, also showed no clear difference.

The authors stress that this does not prove the two patterns are equally good. Direct data were too thin. And the weekly amount of moderate to vigorous activity was not the same in every comparison. The authors rated their confidence in the results as very low. Direct evidence on heart and metabolic health, safety and sticking with exercise was scarce.

## Practical Takeaway

People who packed their exercise into a few days had no clearly different risk of death than people who were regularly active.
