About Dr. Axel Schumacher

Dr. Axel Schumacher (born 1969 in Kreuztal, Germany) is a geneticist, epigenetics researcher and serial biotech entrepreneur. He earned his PhD in human genetics at the University of Cologne under Walter Doerfler in 2002 and began his epigenetics career as a visiting researcher in Wolf Reik's lab at the Babraham Institute in Cambridge. Schumacher invented the technology of epigenetic microarrays (Nucleic Acids Research, 2006) and in 2010 proposed the 'epigenetic theory of aging', helping lay the groundwork for today's epigenetic-clock research. His work delivered the first proof of whole-genome epigenetic abnormalities in Alzheimer's disease. His Google Scholar profile records over 3,150 citations. For more than a decade he managed the Bavarian Red Cross blood-donor biobank in Munich, one of the world's largest biorepositories. Today Schumacher is CEO of Aerion Bioscience, developing a non-invasive blood test for early lung-cancer detection, and Chief Biotechnology Officer of Rejuve.Bio, a SingularityNET-backed longevity drug-discovery company applying AI to long-lived animal models. He co-founded and was CSO of Shivom and authored the Blockchain & Healthcare Strategy Guide. He has a Wikipedia entry and the Wikidata ID Q108573003.
