About Nicolas Jakob
Nicolas Jakob is co-founder and CTO of Avelios Medical, a Munich-based company building a modern hospital operating system powered by structured data. He is a software engineer and deep-learning expert, and previously co-founded a company together with Avelios CEO Christian Albrecht.
Avelios was founded in 2020 by Jakob, Albrecht and Dr. Sebastian Krammer after the founders discovered that hospitals' legacy IT systems could not provide the structured data needed for modern AI applications such as classifying skin conditions. Instead of building on top of outdated systems, they built a new hospital information system from scratch.
In February 2025 Avelios raised a €30 million Series A led by Sequoia Capital, with Revent and the High-Tech Gründerfonds participating – one of the largest digital-health rounds in the German-speaking market. Customers include Sana Kliniken, LMU Klinikum Munich and Hannover Medical School.
As CTO, Jakob leads the engineering organisation and works on AI for clinical workflows, real-time scheduling, explainable decision support and voice-based interaction with the hospital information system.
